“On October 4, everything begins and ends. On October 4, we will achieve what we set out to do,” said Paata Burdzhuladze, leader of the “Rustaveli Avenue” movement, during an appearance on PalitraNews’ program “360 Degrees,” discussing the protest planned for the day of the local elections.
According to Burdzhuladze, they will no longer allow “Georgian Dream” to let thousands of people come out to protest only to return home afterward.
“On October 4, everyone who wants to will come out, and there will be at least 200-300 thousand people. Invitations to attend this gathering are being passed from hand to hand, and they will also be delivered to everyone’s doorstep: ‘On October 4 at 4:00 PM, we invite you to Rustaveli Avenue for the peaceful overthrow of Ivanishvili’s regime.’
Until now, it’s always been the same: people gather, shout ‘call for new elections,’ 200 thousand people show up, and then go home. On October 4, it won’t be like that. If we vote for the Third Republic—and I’m certain everyone will—these people will be the ones going home, not us! On October 4, everything begins and ends. How can we allow people to just go home again? We start on the 4th, and we finish on the 4th. On October 4, we will achieve what we set out to do,” Burdzhuladze stated.
Regarding security measures for the planned protest, he said the demonstration would be very peaceful, and he plans to attend on Rustaveli Avenue with his grandchildren.
Burdzhuladze noted that several police officers have called his headquarters, saying they will stand with the people on the day of the protest.
“I’m not going there to fight; I’m going with my grandchildren. Safety will be ensured, I guarantee it. Let no police officer make a mistake or do anything illegal, because they will be punished on the spot.
I can reveal one thing: many police officers are calling and saying they will join our side on the 4th. They (‘Georgian Dream’) rely on these 5,000 police officers, many of whom will come over to our side. They have no other support.
We start on the 4th, and everything will end on the 4th, believe me. By the 5th, ‘Georgian Dream’ should no longer be in power,” Paata Burdzhuladze stated.
