Mamuka Mdinaradze has assumed the position of head of the State Security Service. His candidacy for the new post was supported by 85 members of Parliament.
The vote took place at the Parliament’s plenary session without discussion of the issue. Prior to this, Mdinaradze was heard by the Defense and Security Committee.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili thanked Mdinaradze for his work in Parliament and wished him the same success in his new role “as he was as a successful majority leader.”
“Both friends and, more importantly, enemies know very well the role Mamuka Mdinaradze played in the Georgian Parliament. For the benefit of those who love our country and to the detriment of its enemies, Mamuka Mdinaradze will be an outstanding head of the State Security Service. He will further strengthen the security system that has been established over the years, enabling us to maintain peace and the pace of prosperity growth amid regional uncertainties and turbulence,” Papuashvili stated.
The Parliament elects the head of the State Security Service for a term of six years.
For the past few months, Anri Okhanashvili led the State Security Service. Okhanashvili was elected as the head of the State Security Service by Parliament in April 2025, but he announced his resignation in August.
