According to the Eurobarometer survey, 46% of the population of the member states support Georgia’s accession to the European Union, – reads the Eurobarometer survey report on the enlargement of the European Union published by the European Commission.
Georgia receives support to join the EU from 46% of respondents, while 43% are opposed. The strongest levels of backing for Georgia are recorded in Sweden (71%), Lithuania (62%), Denmark and Latvia (both 61%).
“From the analysis of the EU average, less than half of respondents (46%) indicate being in favour of Georgia joining the EU once it has met all the membership conditions. Among them, one in ten report being strongly in favour (10%), while more than one third feel fairly in favour (36%). On the contrary, more than two fifths of respondents indicate disagreement with Georgia joining the EU (43%) with just over one quarter being fairly opposed (27%), and around one sixth being strongly opposed (16%). A national analysis illustrates that in 17 Member States at least 50% of respondents are in favour of Georgia joining the EU. The Member States with the highest favour rates are Sweden (71%), Denmark (61%), and Latvia (62%). Whereas the lowest scores are registered in Czechia, Austria (both 29%), and France (36%) Ukraine emerges as the most favoured candidate for EU membership in as many as 14 Member States”, reads the report.
Ukraine is followed by Montenegro, which received support from slightly more than half of respondents (51%) for its prospective EU membership, contingent on it fulfilling all criteria. Montenegro represents the most favoured candidate in seven Member States.
