The leader of “Gakharia for Georgia,” Giorgi Gakharia, does not rule out the possibility that the 12 members of his team may take up their mandates in the Georgian Parliament, but he stated that “this will be directly tied” to the political environment in the country following the municipal elections.
In an interview with “TV Pirveli,” Gakharia discussed the decision regarding the recognition of the mandates of the 12 deputy candidates from “Gakharia for Georgia,” which the Parliament is set to make. He noted that “as of today, nothing has changed regarding the political boycott,” but added that if anything does change, the political council will discuss it, most likely after the municipal elections.
Gakharia stated that, based on the current situation, they are not changing their stance on the political boycott because “the time is not right.”
“As of today, nothing has changed regarding the political boycott. We are simply very actively engaged in the municipal election process right now, and we don’t have time for this. Therefore, any decision regarding changes to the political boycott or these 12 mandates will be discussed by the political council, most likely after the municipal elections. Any decision made will, of course, be public, and you will be the first to know.
Based on the current situation, we are not changing our position on the political boycott simply because the time is not right. We are all currently involved in the municipal election process, and these are very important elections for every Georgian citizen and for the country’s future,” Gakharia stated.
The interviewer then asked Gakharia: “Does this mean you do not rule out the possibility that the next 12 members of your team may take up these mandates when you deem the time is right—not now, but you don’t rule it out?” Gakharia responded that he does not rule anything out.
“I’m not ruling anything out. At the same time, I emphasize that this will be directly tied to the political environment in the country after the municipal elections,” Gakharia noted, adding that he cannot go into nuances and details.
According to Gakharia, not using parliamentary mandates was a mistake.
“The boycott is not related to parliamentary results. I’m telling you honestly today that I believe not using the parliamentary mandates was a mistake. We have a small resource left to correct this mistake. Whether we manage to use it or not will directly depend on the political environment that emerges in the country after the municipal elections,” said Giorgi Gakharia.
