The threat of suspending the visa-free regime is real, but we are working to ensure that this only affects Ivanishvili’s regime and his entourage, and not Georgian citizens, – said Tina Bokuchava, the chairwoman of the National Movement.
According to her, they are working, including with Poland, to ensure that the visa-free regime for Georgian citizens is not revoked.
“The informal meeting of foreign ministers in Denmark will, of course, discuss Georgia, because in two days the deadline set by the European Union for Ivanishvili’s regime to fulfill specific demands expires, although we had no illusions that Ivanishvili would fulfill it. There is a real threat of losing the visa-free regime, which the Ivanishvili regime has put Georgian citizens in, although we are working with European capitals and especially with Poland, because it was under the Polish presidency that it became possible to suspend visa-free travel not for Georgian citizens, but to use the so-called temporary suspension mechanism purposefully against specific groups – Ivanishvili, his entourage, his corrupt elite, judges, and perpetrators. For this purpose, we met with Polish Foreign Minister Radislav Sikorski, among others, because it was under the Polish presidency that it became possible to suspend the so-called temporary suspension mechanism, selectively applying it not to all citizens of Georgia, but to specific groups, and that is exactly what we are working on,” said Tina Bokuchava.
