The Russians came here as peacekeepers, and thank God they did, because Misha’s thugs were looting the entire city.
David Razmadze, Chairman of the Gori Municipal Council, made this statement in an interview with The New York Times.
Razmadze’s interview is part of an extensive article by the American publication about Georgia, titled “How Georgia Fell From the Vanguard of Democracy to the Front Line of Autocracy.”
In his conversation with The New York Times, the Chairman of the Gori Municipal Council blamed the 2008 August Russian aggression on Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili.
“It was all Misha’s fault. He deliberately provoked the situation. This was just one of many problems he caused,” Razmadze stated.
The American publication notes that during a 90-minute interview, Razmadze blamed Saakashvili for everything, “from the decline in church attendance to the excessive costs of municipal water fountains.”
Additionally, Razmadze welcomed the arrival of Russian military forces in Gori during the 2008 August aggression.
“They came here as peacekeepers, and thank God they did, because Misha’s thugs were looting the entire city. They even stole a priest’s car, if you can believe it. If the Russians hadn’t come, who knows how much more damage they would have caused,” stated the Chairman of the Gori Municipal Council.
