According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, in the second quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate in Georgia increased by 0.6 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 14%.
As stated in the information released by GeoStat, in the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, the number of employees increased by 4.7 thousand people (0.5%) and reached 940.5 thousand, while the number of self-employed decreased by 29.3 thousand (6.5%) and amounted to 422.2 thousand.
“During the same period, the number of unemployed increased by 7.9 thousand (3.6%) and amounted to 227.6 thousand. In the second quarter of 2025, the labor force participation rate (the share of the labor force in the population aged 15 and older) decreased by 0.3 percentage points compared to the same period of the previous year and was defined at 54.1%, while the employment rate decreased by 0.6 percentage points and amounted to 46.4%. The labor force participation rate decreased both in urban and rural settlements, by 0.3 and 0.4 percentage points respectively. The employment rate in urban settlements decreased by 1.4 percentage points, while in rural settlements it increased by 0.5 percentage points, amounting to 46.5% and 46.3% respectively. In the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, the share of employees in total employment increased by 1.6 percentage points and reached 69.0%. In the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, the unemployment rate in urban settlements increased by 2.1 percentage points, while in rural settlements it decreased by 1.5 percentage points.
Unemployment is traditionally higher among men compared to women. In the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, this indicator increased by 1.3 percentage points among women, while it remained unchanged among men, standing at 12.2% and 15.9% respectively. The labor force participation rate is higher among men than among women. In the second quarter of 2025, this indicator was 43.7% for women and 66.2% for men. Compared to the same period of the previous year, the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.7 percentage points among women, while it increased by 0.1 percentage points among men. In the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same period of the previous year, the employment rate among women decreased by 1.2 percentage points, while among men it increased by 0.1 percentage points,” the information states.
