“I do not accept the charge that does not belong to me and that I did not commit! Honorable Judge, I believe the court will make an objective decision,” said 26-year-old Davit Khomeriki, who was detained on charges of preparing an explosion in connection with ongoing protests, during a court hearing.
A decision on the accused’s case is expected to be announced at today’s hearing. At this moment, Judge Nino Galustashvili has retired to deliberate on the verdict.
“First of all, we were all overjoyed about Tedo [Abramovi’s] case; I congratulate him on his freedom. He is now the freest person among us.
We are all now facing a sad reality where truth is punishable. We have been fighting together for a long time for shared values, serving one goal: to live in a country that the Georgian people deserve. The path to this goal is full of thorns… Yes, these are the reasons why we are now sitting in prison, unable to understand why people should be punished for fighting for the truth.
I was raised in a Christian family from childhood, where I was taught to live by faith, and to this day, I have not wavered from that. Music and art have helped me in this… As for my protests, I have always expressed them peacefully, through my music and songs, because public demonstrations were never my preference. It all started with the so-called Gavrilov’s Night, when people were protesting the arrival of a Russian occupier. The authorities cracked down on the people, my friends were injured at the protest, leaving a mark on them, and this is where Russia’s hybrid war becomes evident. That bloody day played a decisive role in my life. I will not turn a blind eye, and fortunately, a large part of society thinks the same way. Our authorities are the ones causing this violence; they are afraid of our truth, they poison it, and they lead with malice.
As for my nine months of uncertainty and this fabricated charge, it is complete nonsense! I do not accept the charge that does not belong to me and that I did not commit! The prosecution has no evidence, yet the prosecutor keeps repeating the fabricated ‘Molotov cocktail’ in every sentence, citing false witnesses, most of whom I don’t even know by face, and those I do know have participated in physical and psychological violence against me.
Honorable Judge, despite all this, I believe the court will make an objective decision. My request is that you remain independent, restore the sense of justice to the people, because the people deserve justice. I address society, the people, my family, everyone—you are my rays of hope and my stars; this love is the most precious thing to me. No matter what happens, I love you all very much, and remember, only those who do not value freedom give up,” Davit Khomeriki stated.
For reference, Davit Khomeriki was arrested by law enforcement on December 2, 2024, initially under administrative procedures for blocking a road, along with his brother. However, according to the prosecution, incendiary devices prepared for use were found on him during the arrest.
Davit Khomeriki was charged under Article 18-229 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the preparation of a crime. This offense carries a penalty of 4 to 7 years of imprisonment.
Davit Khomeriki: I will not turn a blind eye, and fortunately, a large part of society thinks the same; our government is the one provoking this violence, they are afraid of our truth – I do not admit guilt, and I believe the court will make an objective decision
