The 2008 war between Russia and Georgia resulted in the deaths of over 400 people, including soldiers and civilians. According to official statistics, 170 employees of the Georgian Ministry of Defense, 14 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and 224 civilians were killed. Additionally, 2,232 people were wounded or injured, with 1,045 being military personnel.

In his statement, Prime Minister Kobakhidze described August 8 as a “tragic date” marked by betrayal committed by the then government. He emphasized that it is crucial for the country to have a sovereign government that prioritizes national interests over external forces.
