**Georgia’s President Slams Regime for Mzia Amaghlobeli’s Imprisonment**

In a strong statement, Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zourabichvili, criticized the regime for its decision to keep Mzia Amaghlobeli in prison. Amaghlobeli is the founder of “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti,” two prominent media outlets.

According to Zurabishvili, the imprisonment speaks to a regime that has lost its courage to back down when it’s clear there was no crime committed. The President stated that this fight will not end here, emphasizing that society has spoken its mind and the regime is trying to escape responsibility.

**Regime Lacks Courage to Follow Through**

Zurabishvili pointed out that the regime lacks the courage to follow through with their actions or truly retreat. Instead, they remain in a neutral zone, hoping to avoid consequences. The President warned that this regime cannot escape its responsibilities and will not get away with its actions.

**A Message to the European Union**

Zurabishvili also emphasized that by keeping Amaghlobeli in prison, the Georgian Dream regime is sending a message to the European Union and other partners that it does not want to be part of the community. This decision goes against the will of the Georgian people and is an attempt to assert sovereignty.

**Support for Doctor Giorgi Akhobadze**

The President also expressed support for doctor Giorgi Akhobadze, who is accused of a drug-related crime. Zourabishvili regretted that she could not be present at his trial but stated that she was with him in spirit and heart.

**A Fight Against the Regime**

Zurabishvili emphasized that everyone’s fight against the regime is our fight and that their examples are strong reminders of what we can achieve together. The President called on people to continue the fight, citing Amaghlobeli as a powerful example of courage and determination.

**The Charges Against Mzia Amaghlobeli**

Amaghlobeli was charged under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to resistance, threats, or violence against a public order protector or other representative of the authorities. This offense carries penalties such as a fine, house arrest for up to 2 years, or imprisonment for 2 to 6 years.

Initially, Amaghlobeli was charged under Article 353/1, Part 1 of the Criminal Code, which carried a penalty of imprisonment for 4 to 7 years. The President’s statement highlights the discrepancy in the charges and the regime’s attempt to intimidate and silence individuals who speak out against them.
