**Deadly Russian Strike on Kyiv Leaves 32 Dead, 179 Injured**
A devastating missile and drone strike by Russia on the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv on July 31 has claimed another victim. According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration, a man who was injured in the neck during the attack died in hospital on August 6.
This latest death brings the total number of people killed in the strike to 32, making it the deadliest Russian attack on Kyiv in 2025. The attack also left at least 179 people injured, including three police officers and 12 children. Of those wounded, 30 remained hospitalized as of July 31.
The severity of this attack is reflected in the number of injured children, with five of them still in hospital. This is the highest recorded number of child casualties in Kyiv since Russia’s full-scale invasion began in 2022. The deadliest assault on the capital prior to this occurred in December 2023, when 33 people were killed.
**A Day of Mourning**
In response to the attack, city authorities declared August 1 a Day of Mourning. Flags were flown at half-mast across all municipal buildings, and entertainment events were canceled for the day. This somber mood is a testament to the impact of Russia’s relentless attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilians.
**No Ceasefire in Sight**
Despite international pressure and mounting casualties, the Kremlin continues to reject proposals for an unconditional ceasefire. Instead, Moscow has increasingly relied on mass drone and missile strikes aimed at Ukrainian cities and critical infrastructure. This refusal to engage in peace talks raises concerns about the future of Ukraine’s war-torn communities.
