**Georgian Dream’s Campaign Against German Ambassador Raises Eyebrows**
The government of Georgia, led by the Georgian Dream coalition, has been involved in a heated campaign against ambassadors from partner countries. The latest target is the German ambassador, Peter Fischer, who is being accused of renting an apartment owned by Mamuka Khazaradze’s family without a proper contract.
**Grigol Gegelia Speaks Out**
One of the leaders of Lelo – For Strong Georgia, Grigol Gegelia, has responded to these allegations. He expressed solidarity with Ambassador Fischer and questioned the motives behind the campaign. “It’s unclear what exactly they’re looking for,” he said. “Georgian Dream is continuing its campaign against the ambassadors of Georgia’s partner countries… It’s almost laughable to suggest that a representative of the Federal Republic of Germany would sign a lease without a proper contract.”
**Germany Stands by Ambassador**
Gegelia also pointed out that Germany’s Foreign Office has repeatedly made it clear that Ambassador Fischer fully reflects the country’s policy towards Georgia and its government. This suggests that the German government is not taking the allegations against its ambassador seriously.
**Questionable Motives**
The real motive behind Georgian Dream’s campaign remains unclear, but Gegelia suspects it may be linked to a personal vendetta. “Once again, Mamuka Khazaradze and the companies associated with him have paid millions of lari into the country’s budget,” he said. “Everyone knows it – especially Georgian Dream, which is in control of that budget.”
**A Distinction Between Friend and Foe**
Gegelia emphasized that there should be a clear distinction between friend and foe in international relations. He questioned why Georgian Dream is targeting ambassadors from partner countries and suggested that the government may have ulterior motives for doing so.
