**Georgia’s Relationship with Europe in Jeopardy**
Georgian politician Irakli Kobakhidze recently stated that European structures are sending “telegrams” to the ruling party, Georgian Dream. However, according to Valeri Chechelashvili, Head of Geopolitical Studies at the Strategic Analysis Center, this statement is far from true.
**No Willingness to Dialogue**
Chechelashvili claims that Georgian Dream has deviated so significantly from European values that it has destroyed any basis for dialogue. The three main areas where Georgian Dream needs to show willingness to compromise are laws, prisoners, and elections. As long as the ruling party refuses to address these issues, there is no political space opened for negotiations.
**Using Diplomatic Channels**
Chechelashvili suggests that if Georgian Dream genuinely desires a high-level dialogue with Europe, it could use diplomatic channels, such as the EU Ambassador to Georgia and Georgia’s Ambassador to Brussels. These ambassadors could help prepare and organize a top-level meeting between European leaders and Georgian officials.
**Confrontation with the West**
Chechelashvili warns that confrontation with the West could lead to serious complications for Georgia in the international relations system. He emphasizes that maintaining good relations with the West, particularly the United States and Europe, is crucial for ensuring Georgia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.
**Inconsistent Foreign Policy**
The Head of Geopolitical Studies also criticizes Georgian Dream’s inconsistent foreign policy towards Russia and other partners. While making concessions to Russia, the ruling party worsens relations with European countries that support Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
**Time for Actions, Not Statements**
Chechelashvili concludes that in diplomacy, there is a time for statements and a time for actions. Georgian Dream has shown its true intentions through its actions, rather than words. The EU has also articulated this in its positions regarding Georgia, highlighting the need for concrete steps towards European values.
**Comparing Brussels to the Soviet Union**
Chechelashvili takes issue with Irakli Kobakhidze’s comparison of Brussels to the Soviet Union, saying it is a misunderstanding that even a young man like Kobakhidze should learn from his own father. The Head of Geopolitical Studies emphasizes that there are fundamental differences between the two systems.
