**Jersey Chief Minister Demands End to Gaza War**
The crisis in Gaza has been condemned by Jersey’s chief minister, Deputy Lyndon Farnham. In a letter to UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Farnham urged the British government to maintain pressure on Israel to end the conflict.
Farnham called for an “immediate cessation” of violence against civilians and the release of all hostages. He also expressed concern about reports from Amnesty International that suggest Israel’s actions in Gaza may violate obligations under the Genocide Convention.
**Humanitarian Aid Efforts Continue**
Despite the ongoing crisis, Jersey Overseas Aid (JOA) has continued to provide humanitarian assistance to those affected by the conflict. Farnham said JOA had allocated over £1.3m for aid efforts and was working with international partners to explore additional avenues for assistance.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has condemned Israeli attacks on facilities in central Gaza, saying they have compromised their ability to continue working. The WHO also expressed concern about the plight of civilians in Gaza.
**International Community Must Act**
Farnham stressed that the international community cannot ignore reports of human rights abuses and must take action to protect civilians. He urged the UK government to take the strongest possible action to push for an immediate ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian access to Gaza.
Jersey’s chief minister also emphasized the importance of upholding human dignity, justice, and the rule of law. “We stand with those who call for peace, accountability, and the urgent protection of civilians, regardless of nationality,” Farnham said.
