MIA ends investigation into artist Sandro Sulabedze’s case due to lack of evidence

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has halted the investigation into the criminal charges against Sandro Sulaberidze.
According to a statement released by the ministry, the investigation was stopped because there were no signs that there had been a crime.
“On February 4, 2023 the Ministry of Internal Affairs was notified of a theft of modern art from an exhibition space at the National Gallery of Georgia. The relevant services began the investigation in accordance with Article 177, part 2 of the Criminal Code.
The case was the basis for the investigation. The investigation was stopped due to the lack of evidence of a criminal act, after implementing the relevant procedural and investigating actions.
Sandro Sulaberidze participated in the National Gallery of Georgia’s exhibition “Self-portrait before the mirror”. During the exhibit, he removed the work he had created and wrote on the wall “Art is alive & independent”.
