According to reports, all of Mikanadze’s CVs describe him as a doctoral candidate, not a holder of a doctoral degree. When asked directly if he had defended a doctoral degree, Mikanadze simply replied, “I haven’t.”

In an unusual display of emotion, Mikanadze lashed out at the journalists, calling them “ridiculous,” “pathetic,” and even “laughable.” He claimed that his CVs clearly stated he was a doctoral candidate, not a holder of a doctoral degree. Mikanadze also pointed out that the Prime Minister’s advisor, Irakli Kobakhidze, had never lied about his education credentials.
**The Controversy Surrounding Mikanadze’s Education**
It appears that there has been some confusion surrounding Mikanadze’s educational background. When he was nominated as Minister of Education, Kobakhidze noted that he “has a doctoral dissertation at the Free University of Amsterdam.” However, it later emerged that Mikanadze had not actually defended a doctoral degree at the institution.
Furthermore, the official website of the Ministry of Education makes no mention of Mikanadze’s studies at the Free University of Amsterdam. Instead, it states that he was a researcher there in 2013.
**The Minister’s Reaction**
Mikanadze seemed to suggest that his status as a doctoral candidate could be interpreted as having defended a degree. He also challenged journalists to ask about his master’s degree from the University of Essex, which he claimed he had actually defended.
However, this reaction only fueled further controversy and raised questions about the Minister’s transparency and honesty regarding his educational credentials.
