**Trial Begins for Noted Georgian Actor and Comedian**
In a significant development, the trial of Andro Chichinadze, a well-known Georgian actor, Onise Tchakhadze, a popular humorist, and nine others accused of participating in group violence during protests near the Parliament has started at the Tbilisi City Court.
Today’s court session is expected to examine the prosecution’s evidence and hear from witnesses. All the defendants are present at the hearing, except for Revaz Kiknadze, who is absent.
Before the session began, the defendants issued a statement through their lawyers. Andro Chichinadze urged people not to comment on the case, saying it was “a violation of the presumption of innocence.” He didn’t elaborate further.
Onise Tchakhadze, known for his witty humor, used the opportunity to send messages to Catholicos-Patriarch Jacob. He asked him to keep church and politics separate, jokingly requested forgiveness from God for those who speak without thinking, and revealed that his favorite movie is “Londre.”
**Background and Charges**
The 11 defendants – Andro Chichinadze, Onise Tchakhadze, Jano Archaia, Ruslan Sivakov, Luka Jabuashvili, Guram Mirtchulava, Valeri Tetrashvili, Giorgi Terishvili, Irakli Kherashvili, Revaz Kiknadze, and Sergei Kukharcuk – were charged with participating in group violence during protests near the Parliament. Their cases have been merged into one proceeding.
According to Article 225 of Georgia’s Criminal Code, this crime carries a penalty of four to six years of imprisonment. The defendants are facing serious charges, and their trial is being closely watched by the public.
