**Russian Attacks on Ukraine Leave 4 Dead, 37 Injured**
Over the past 24 hours, Russian attacks across Ukraine have resulted in the deaths of at least four civilians and injuries to 37 others. The attacks were reported by regional authorities on July 5.
According to Ukraine’s Air Force, Russia launched a massive assault using 322 drones, including Iranian-designed Shahed-type attack drones. While air defenses successfully intercepted 292 drones, another 135 dropped off radar, likely used as decoys to overwhelm Ukrainian systems. Despite this, the attacks were repelled through the use of aviation, electronic warfare, mobile fire teams, and air defense systems.
**Regional Breakdown**
The attacks had varying impacts across different regions. In Donetsk Oblast, two civilians were killed and four others injured in Russian strikes. Governor Vadym Filashkin reported these casualties. In Kharkiv Oblast, one person was killed and 15 injured, including two children, as reported by Governor Oleh Syniehubov.
In Kherson Oblast, 11 civilians were injured after Russian forces targeted residential areas and other civilian infrastructure, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin. A postal worker in Chernihiv Oblast was also injured by a first-person-view (FPV) drone while delivering mail, sustaining shrapnel wounds. In Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, four civilians were injured, two men and two women, as reported by Governor Serhii Lysak.
In Zaporizhzhia Oblast, an 84-year-old man was killed, and two others — a 54-year-old man and a 10-year-old boy — were injured. The latest attacks come as Russia continues to escalate its aerial campaign despite calls for a ceasefire.
**Escalating Conflict**
The recent strikes underscore the escalating nature of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian officials have repeatedly urged Western partners to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities amid persistent drone and missile strikes. As Russia rejects calls for a ceasefire, it seems unlikely that these attacks will abate anytime soon.
