**Tbilisi City Court to Hear Givi Targamadze’s Case**

Today, the Tbilisi City Court will hold a hearing in the case of opposition politician Givi Targamadze. Targamadze has been accused of failing to comply with the request of the Parliamentary Temporary Investigative Commission (PTIC). The commission had asked him to appear on April 3 to explain himself, but he didn’t show up.

As a result of his absence, Targamadze was charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code. This article makes it an offense to fail to comply with the PTIC’s requests. The punishment for this crime can be quite severe – it includes a fine or even imprisonment for up to one year. Additionally, the court can also take away his right to hold public office or engage in professional activity for up to three years.

**Targamadze Chooses Not to Speak**

It seems that Targamadze has decided not to attend today’s hearing where the verdict will be announced. He was given the chance to make a final statement, but he chose not to exercise this right. Judge Nino Galustashvili had postponed the previous hearing specifically to allow him to do so.

The bail for Targamadze was set at 10,000 GEL as a preventive measure. This means that he paid the required amount within the legally prescribed timeframe to avoid being held in custody while awaiting trial. Now, the court will decide his fate based on the evidence presented.
