**Georgia’s Trade Boom Continues: Exports and Imports on the Rise**

Georgia’s external merchandise trade has reached a new high, according to the latest data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). In January-May 2025, the country’s trade turnover hit $9.79 billion, a 13.3% increase compared to the same period last year.

**Exports Soar**

The export sector led the charge, with exports totaling $2.59 billion, a 14.6% year-on-year increase. Motor cars remained Georgia’s top export commodity, accounting for $974.7 million (37.6%) of total exports. Precious metal ores and concentrates followed in second place, while spirituous beverages took third spot.

**Imports Also on the Rise**

On the import side, the United States topped the list with $1.095 billion, followed by Turkey ($1.075 billion) and Russia ($808.6 million). Motor cars also dominated imports, totaling $1.298 billion (18% of total imports). Petroleum and petroleum oils came in second, while imports of paintings, drawings, and pastels took third spot.

**Trade Deficit Widespread**

Despite the growth in exports and imports, Georgia’s trade deficit remained a concern, standing at $4.6 billion. This accounts for 47% of the total trade turnover during the reporting period.

**Regional Trade Partners**

Georgia’s trade with neighboring countries was also noteworthy. The top three export destinations were Kyrgyzstan ($567.4 million), Kazakhstan ($330.6 million), and Azerbaijan ($282.3 million). In terms of imports, the United States topped the list, followed by Turkey and Russia.
