**Georgia’s Ex-Premier Giorgi Gakharia Sparks Controversy with his Absence from Parliament**
Giorgi Gakharia, Georgia’s former Prime Minister, has been out of the country for five days. This has raised eyebrows among politicians and the public alike. A member of parliament, Guram Macharashvili, is questioning why Gakharia is not returning to answer questions about a sensitive issue.
Guram Macharashvili, who is also a member of a temporary investigative commission, made his comments in a statement to journalists. He accused Gakharia of trying to avoid being questioned about the establishment of a checkpoint in Chorchana, which involves a large area of land.
According to Macharashvili, Gakharia received and confirmed a summons related to the commission’s session while he was still in Georgia. However, after receiving the summons, Gakharia supposedly decided that his presence was needed elsewhere in the world, dealing with “global politics.”
Macharashvili believes that for an issue as significant as Chorchana, it is essential that Gakharia be questioned in person, not remotely. He stated that Gakharia had enough time to prepare and attend the commission’s session but instead chose to stay abroad.
The party “For Georgia” has also commented on Gakharia’s absence. They claim that he has expressed his readiness to speak with the investigative commission remotely regarding the Chorchana issue, but this is not acceptable. The party believes that if the commission genuinely wants to hear from Gakharia, they should allow him to participate remotely.
However, Macharashvili and others are insisting that Gakharia physically attend the session on June 23. They see no valid reason for his absence and accuse him of trying to avoid accountability.
