**Russia’s Drone Attacks Wreak Havoc in Kherson**
A devastating series of drone attacks by Russian forces has left at least 20 civilians injured in the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson on June 17. According to local authorities, the attacks have resulted in a significant number of people being hospitalized with blast trauma and shrapnel wounds.
Kherson Oblast Governor Oleksandr Prokudin took to Telegram to inform residents about the new tactics employed by Russian forces. “The Russians have changed their tactics for using drones — since early morning, they have been launching massive attacks on the Dniprovskyi district of Kherson,” he wrote.
One 36-year-old man sustained severe head and chest injuries, while a 51-year-old woman was treated for a concussion and facial wounds. Four other victims, including two women aged 60 and 67, were hospitalized with injuries to their torsos and limbs. Several others, including a pregnant woman and a child in Odesa, were also affected by Russian drone strikes earlier that day.
“It’s like they’re targeting civilians on purpose,” said a resident of Kherson. “We are scared and don’t know what will happen next.”
**A Pattern of Attacks**
Kherson has been under relentless attack since its liberation from Russian forces in November 2022. The city, located on the western bank of the Dnipro River, has faced numerous attacks using artillery, guided bombs, and drones.
“It’s a war strategy to wear us down,” said Prokudin. “We are taking all necessary measures to counter enemy drones and adapting to the enemy’s new tactics. This takes time.”
**The Wider Context**
Meanwhile, Russian forces continue to occupy the eastern bank of Kherson, from which they launch attacks on civilian targets.
In other news, President Volodymyr Zelensky was set to meet US President Donald Trump at a summit, but it remains unclear whether this meeting will take place due to escalating tensions in the Middle East. Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has urged citizens to leave Israel and Iran “as soon as possible” due to a serious deterioration in regional security.
**A Call for Action**
“We urge residents to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary,” said Prokudin, emphasizing the need for caution and vigilance.
