**Parliament Asks Nika Gvaramia to Testify Again, but His Party Refuses**
The Georgian Parliament has sent a second request to Nika Gvaramia, the leader of the “Coalition for Change”, to appear before a temporary investigative commission. But Gvaramia’s party, Akhali, is not backing down and refuses to cooperate with the commission.
In a statement, Akhali emphasized that their position remains unchanged. They do not intend to accept the rules set by the current regime, led by Bidzina Ivanishvili, or grant it any legitimacy. The party sees the commission as a tool to betray national interests and rewrite history.
Akhali’s statement read: “Our position is unchanged – at no stage do we intend to accept the regime’s rules of the game, grant it even the slightest legitimacy, or cooperate with the so-called commission… Consistency, principled stance, defiance, and non-cooperation – including non-participation in the farce referred to as elections – are the path to victory.”
**Background: Nika Gvaramia’s Pre-Trial Detention**
For context, Nika Gvaramia was placed in pre-trial detention on June 13. He had been summoned to testify before the Georgian Parliament’s temporary investigative commission but did not appear. As a result, he has been charged under Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which concerns “failure to comply with the request of the Parliament’s temporary investigative commission”.
Gvaramia voluntarily reported to Rustavi No. 12 Penitentiary after the Prosecutor’s Office filed a motion to replace his bail with imprisonment.
**The Bigger Picture**
Akhali’s refusal to cooperate with the commission is part of its broader strategy to challenge the current regime and its rules. By not participating in the elections or cooperating with the commission, Akhali aims to take a principled stance against what it sees as an illegitimate government.
As Nika Gvaramia’s party continues to defy the regime’s demands, the Georgian public will be watching closely to see how this saga unfolds.
