**Georgia’s Opposition Leader Calls for Boycott of “Illegitimate” Elections**
The leader of the opposition party, European Georgia, Akaki Bobokhidze, has urged Georgians not to participate in any new elections called by the ruling party, Georgian Dream. Speaking on a recent TV program, he emphasized that their goal is not just to hold new elections but to ensure fair and trustworthy ones.
**”Georgian Dream” Under Pressure**
According to Bobokhidze, the opposition has been showing resilience as the situation around Georgia develops rapidly. He believes that time is working against Georgian Dream, with the noose tightening around them. The opposition leader emphasized that their partners are urging the ruling party to make changes and warned that if they don’t heed these calls, pressure on them will continue, and sanctions will intensify.
**Elections Must Be Democratic**
Bobokhidze stressed that the U.S. is demanding democratic elections from Georgian Dream. He believes that any new elections must be conducted under conditions agreed upon with the opposition and society. In his view, if Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of Georgian Dream, announces new elections tomorrow, the public should not participate in such elections.
**State Serves One Man’s Interests**
The leader of European Georgia criticized the current state of affairs in Georgia, saying that the entire state serves the interests of one man – Bidzina Ivanishvili. He pointed out that recently passed laws are tailored to benefit Ivanishvili personally and not the country as a whole. Bobokhidze also mentioned a new draft law that would allow authorities to collect fines from family members, highlighting how Georgian Dream is using its power to settle personal scores.
**Court Cases and Detentions**
Regarding court cases against opposition party leaders, Bobokhidze assessed that the government is using these cases as a tool to silence the opposition. He expressed concern about the investigation launched by the Prosecutor’s Office into the opening of a checkpoint in the village of Chorchana, which he believes is an attempt to target individuals who were once members of the government.
**A Harmful Government**
The leader of European Georgia described Georgian Dream as a harmful government that blames others for its own mistakes. He pointed out how Ivanishvili wants to harshly punish former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, whom he believes is being unfairly targeted.
