**Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism Meeting Held in Ergneti**
On June 11, a meeting of the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) took place in Ergneti, near the occupation line. The gathering was co-facilitated by Bettina Patricia Boughani, head of the EU Monitoring Mission in Georgia, and Christoph Späti, special representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the South Caucasus.
**Key Issues Discussed**
The Georgian State Security Service (SSSG) stated that all significant incidents along the occupation line since the previous meeting were discussed. The SSSG also reiterated its demand to hold those responsible for the killing of Tamaz Ginturi accountable. Ginturi was shot dead by Russian occupying forces in November 2023 while trying to make an arrest near the village of Kirbali.
Additionally, the authorities called for the unconditional and immediate release of all illegally detained Georgian citizens. The SSSG also condemned the “illegal so-called borderization” that had been identified in recent times.
**Humanitarian Issues**
The discussions also touched on humanitarian issues affecting the local population living near the occupation line. This included problems related to freedom of movement and possible solutions to these issues.
**EU Monitoring Mission Statement**
The EU Monitoring Mission (EUMM) emphasized its call for the full re-opening of all crossing points along the administrative boundary line (ABL). The EUMM believes that unhindered access would greatly benefit people living near the ABL, particularly in terms of their livelihoods.
The participants exchanged views on various topics, including recent security developments, limitations on freedom of movement, and duty of care for isolated elderly individuals. The co-facilitators expressed concern over the continuous practice of detentions and renewed their call for the release of those in custody.
**Tskhinvali’s Demands**
The de facto representative of the Moscow-backed occupied regime in Tskhinvali demanded the removal of the Chorchana-Tsnelisi police checkpoint. According to Igor Kochiev, this post hinders the free movement of citizens who want to reach their homes on the right side of the Lamushuristskali river.
**Next Meeting Scheduled**
The next IPRM meeting will be held on July 21, 2025. The meetings aim to foster cooperation and prevent incidents along the occupation line.
