**EU Ambassador Warns of Lost Opportunity for Georgia**
The European Union’s enlargement process with regard to Georgia is at a standstill, and this historic chance for the country may be lost, said EU Ambassador Pawel Herczynski. Speaking in Tbilisi, he expressed his concerns about the situation on the ground.
Herczynski was responding to questions from journalists about reports of activists, opposition politicians, and media personalities being summoned to court over their comments related to Georgian Dream MPs. The ambassador emphasized that it’s not his job to judge others’ comments but rather to state the EU’s position. He condemned violence in all its forms, stressing that the responsibility for such actions lies primarily with the authorities.
“We have seen violence, brutality, and complete impunity,” Herczynski said, adding that this is unacceptable. The ambassador called for dialogue among Georgians as a way out of the current crisis. “I really want to see a conversation among Georgians… A dialogue is needed,” he emphasized.
When asked about what could be done to move forward with EU integration, Herczynski reiterated his hope for a national priority to be made of this process. He expressed his desire for existing differences to be overcome and for Georgia to return to the path of EU integration. The ambassador noted that while Ukraine and Moldova are making progress in their EU integration processes, Georgia’s process is at a standstill.
“This is unfortunate,” Herczynski said, “and I fear that this historic chance for Georgia may be lost.” He emphasized that this is a priority for the European Commission, which is moving forward with other countries but has made little progress with Georgia.
