**Ukraine to Receive $2.26 Billion from UK for Air Defense Systems**

The United Kingdom is set to provide Ukraine with nearly 1.7 billion pounds, or around $2.26 billion, to purchase air defense systems and missiles. This significant funding boost was announced by Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on June 11.

According to Shmyhal, the new funds will be used to acquire Rapid Ranger air defense systems and Martlet lightweight multirole missiles. The Rapid Ranger system is a mobile, laser-guided air defense system designed for rapid deployment and effective against low-flying threats such as drones and helicopters. It is typically paired with the Martlet missile, which is specifically designed for use against drones and light aircraft.

**Strengthening Air Defense Capacity**

The UK’s decision to provide this funding comes amidst intensifying Russian air assaults on Ukraine. Russia launched a significant aerial attack on Kyiv on June 10, one of the largest during the ongoing full-scale war. In response, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 479 Russian drones and missiles in a record air assault.

“This month, the U.K. also announced record aid for the supply of drones,” Shmyhal wrote on Telegram, noting that this will allow for the transfer of 100,000 drones to Ukraine this year. The UK has allocated a total of 4.5 billion pounds ($5.8 billion) for military assistance to Ukraine this year, marking its largest annual commitment so far.

**Long-Term Partnership**

The UK’s continued support for Ukraine is significant, with London remaining one of Kyiv’s most steadfast military partners. The UK provides long-range missiles, armored vehicles, training, and political support against Russian aggression. This partnership has been crucial in helping Ukraine strengthen its air defense capacity and resist Russian attacks.

As the war between Russia and Ukraine continues to escalate, it is clear that international support will play a vital role in determining the outcome. The UK’s continued commitment to providing military aid to Ukraine is a positive step towards strengthening Ukraine’s ability to defend itself against Russian aggression.
