According to UNM chairperson Tina Bokuchava, this is just another example of the regime’s attempts to silence opposition voices through judicial means. “The so-called judge, Jvebe Nachkebia, carried out a political order and sentenced Anatoli Gigauri to prison for standing on the side of truth and our country’s European future,” she said.
Bokuchava pointed out that the true intent behind this sentence was to intimidate and silence opposition leaders. “Anatoli Gigauri, like many other political prisoners, will not have to serve his full term in prison,” she stated confidently. “The system is built on injustice, but it will collapse sooner rather than later.”

Bokuchava noted that the judge used a false witness, Vakhtang Gabunia, to incriminate Gigauri. This is a common tactic used by the regime to secure convictions against opposition figures.
