“Accepting the loss of around a fifth of Ukraine’s territory would be a bitter pill for Zelenskiy and his government,” said Tyson Barker, a senior fellow with the Atlantic Council and former US State Department official. “The Ukrainians will need to remain firm in their objections and conditions for a negotiated settlement while demonstrating gratitude for American support.”
